F1 Monaco GP Saturday practice and qualifying as it happened

Live coverage of Saturday at the F1 Monaco Grand Prix

KEY MOMENTS

  • Antonelli disrupted Ferrari's dominance in FP3
  • Ferrari boss Fred Vasseur will miss Saturday through illness
  • Bearman crashed in FP3, causing significant damage

The sixth round of the 2026 Formula 1 season takes place at the Monaco Grand Prix.

A divisive event among the F1 fanbase, Monaco is still viewed as the jewel in the championship's crown, with the narrow, twisting streets offering a challenge seen nowhere else on the calendar. With no time to rest on the 19-turn, 3.337km layout, even the smallest of mistakes can carry a huge penalty.

Ferrari lived up to expectations that it would be strong in Monaco, with Lewis Hamilton leading a 1-2 in second practice, reversing the order from the earlier FP1 session led by Charles Leclerc.

But the Scuderia will be without team principal Fred Vasseur on Saturday, after he was admitted to a local medical facility with an unspecified illness.

Max Verstappen has led the Red Bull charge and appears the best-placed driver to challenge Ferrari this weekend, with Mercedes some way off the pace behind the top three in the early exchanges.

McLaren has been unable to take advantage of the unique nature of Monaco, with an electrical problem for Lando Norris compounding the team's problems.

Audi has been the surprise package so far, placing both cars in the top 10 in each of the Friday practice sessions. If this can be replicated in qualifying, the team will certainly be in contention for a season-defining points haul.

2026 Monaco Grand Prix Saturday schedule

FP3 11:30am BST - 12:30pm BST

Qualifying: 3:00pm BST - 4:00pm BST

06 Jun 2026
15:11

Antonelli goes third, and Verstappen goes fourth, but Hamilton then pushes the pair down a place as he banks a 1m13.804s to go third.

15:10

Piastri has found pace not seen so far this weekend from the Australian, and he's currently third fastest. But Antonelli is on a hot lap.

15:09

Now the times are really falling. Norris goes fastest with a 1m13.796s, but Leclerc instantly goes 0.397s faster than the McLaren driver.

15:08

Verstappen is flying on his first hot lap in qualifying, but he's caught out by traffic - Albon the worst offender - and he goes only fifth fastest.

15:06

A 1m14.141s for Leclerc, as Norris, Antonelli, and Hamilton follow. Times are around a second off FP3, but the fuel levels are likely much higher at this early stage of the session.

15:06

"Mate, that's the worst prep ever. What the f*** are we doing?" It's safe to say, Hadjar is not a happy camper at Red Bull.

15:05

A 1m15.936s is the first semi-serious effort from Bearman, who does well to bounce back from his session-ending crash in FP3.

15:03

A 1m20.242s effort from Perez highlights this, just as Hamilton complains about Leclerc backing him up.

15:02

Perez will be the first driver to set a time in the session, but the best times have come on the second timed lap throughout the weekend, so far.

15:00
Q1 begins

The light goes green, and the cars stream out onto the track.

14:59

The queue has already formed at the end of the pit lane. Everyone wants a banker time, before the yellow or red flags inevitably fly.

14:57

It is time. Three minutes, and the cars will be on the track. Chaos, brilliant chaos, is on it's way.

14:49

Aside from the rear wing, Bearman's Haas has a new front wing, floor, and steering rack. The work is complete, and that is a mightily impressive job from the team.

14:45

15 minutes until qualifying gets underway in Monaco, and the excitement is really beginning to ramp up. Any slight error could destroy a weekend, but any extra bravery could make it. It's a proper hero or zero scenario.

14:40

Pole would put Antonelli in a strong position to make it five wins in a row, equalling Lewis Hamilton's career best run.

How FP3 ended for Bearman. Hardly what you would describe as 'ideal'.

The boldest move of the Monaco weekend so far. A stealthy attack, executed to perfection.

14:18

Ferrari looked the team to beat on Friday, with Mercedes in the weeds, looking like just getting a driver on the podium on Sunday would be an overachievement. But then came FP3, as Antonelli hooked it all up, and toppled Leclerc and Hamilton.

A red flag may have stifled the last-minute action, but it is certainly game on, with Verstappen also in the hunt.

14:13
Welcome back to Monaco

Welcome back, and here we go. Without a doubt, the most crucial qualifying session of the F1 season is coming up next. Expect traffic, high drama, and maybe a crash or two. The racing may lack, but qualifying in Monaco is exceptional, without fail.

Where Antonelli came from to take that session is incredible. Leclerc again locks his brakes on the in-lap. His car looks a complete handful all of a sudden.
