Fisi eyes Sauber as frustration grows at Jordan.

Giancarlo Fisichella is rumoured to be considering a move to Sauber as his attempts to get the Jordan-Ford on the pace continue to meet with setbacks.

The Italian insists that he would still to love to drive for Ferrari but, knowing that his time may have passed, is looking at a possible role with the Scuderia's customer team instead. According to Britain's Guardian newspaper, Fisi could then put himself directly into cometition with Ferrari test driver Felipe Massa - in the hope that, if he out-guns the Brazilian youngster - Ferrari may come calling.

According to Britain's Guardian newspaper, Fisi could then put himself directly into cometition with Ferrari test driver Felipe Massa - in the hope that, if he out-guns the Brazilian youngster - Ferrari may come calling.

The Scuderia does not have a seat available for 2004, but is rumoured to be ditching Rubens Barrichello at the end of next season, ostensibly in favour of Massa, who has been testing with the team this year. Ferrari is thought to be putting pressure on Sauber to re-hire the Brazilian for 2004 to get him race-ready for elevation to the champion squad the following season.

Sauber has not committed to the Massa rumours, but admitted during the opening day of the British GP meeting that it was talking to Fisichella, and that a move was on the cards. The Italian looks likely to swap seats with Nick Heidfeld, who has been linked to a possible Mercedes-powered seat at Jordan next year, while Massa would replace the ageing Heinz-Harald Frentzen.

Fisichella has not been happy at Jordan for some time, knowing that a poor car is masking his abilties. His press release comment after first qualifying on Friday was limited to one line claiming that he should not still be looking for the pace to move up the grid.
