The Portuguese Grand Prix returned to the F1 calendar for the first time since 1996 last year following significant revisions to the 2020 schedule as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, with Portimao staging its first-ever grand prix.
Lewis Hamilton won last year’s race to claim his 92nd F1 victory and surpass Michael Schumacher’s long-standing record of most grand prix wins by a single driver.
F1 did not originally intend to return to Portugal this year but the race was a late addition to the schedule as the third round of the season after the planned season-opener in Australia and the Chinese Grand Prix were both postponed.
