Team Penske duo Josef Newgarden and Will Power were hit with grid penalties, and sent to the back of the 33-car field, after failing technical inspections in qualifying.

The Penske fallout has dominated the build-up to the Indy 500.

Alex Palou is the driver dominating IndyCar and he will have his eye on a famous win tonight.

Devlin DeFrancesco finally comes into the pits for his third stop, releasing home hero Conor Daly into the lead.

Race resumes for good this time on lap 110! Devlin DeFrancesco leads the way from Conor Daly.

The race resumed at the end of lap 106, only for race control to throw the yellow flag again. Christian Rasmussen just avoided a crash after his rear-end went loose.

Ryan Hunter-Reay pits

Ryan Hunter-Rear makes his third pitstop for fuel under caution and drops to 21st. Devlin DeFrancesco is now in front but he is due a pitstop.

Kyle Larson is involved in a multi-car incident at the restart. His hopes of completing the double are over.

Alex Palou is running fifth but is the effective race leader. The four drivers ahead of him have either not pitted or are on different strategy.

Robert Shwartzman also makes a mistake heading into his pitbox and hits a member of his pit crew. He is out of the race, while his fueler is heading to the medical centre for check-ups.

Takuma Sato misses his braking marker  in the pits and RLL crew have to wheel him back into his pitbox. The time loss has dropped Sato to 17th place.

Penske's Josef Newgarden is running in ninth place having started down in 32nd. With more than half the race to go, he still has a shot at making it three in a row.

Alexander Rossi's car catches fire as he makes his pitstop. The crew have extinguished the fire, but the 2016 winner is out of the race.

Takuma Sato is having to fend off David Malukas, who has been rapid in the #4 A.J. Foyt car since the second roundof pitstops. Just three tenths separate the leading duo.

Colton Herta is hit with a drive through penalty for pitlane speed violation.

Daly pitted on lap 61 and triggered the second round of pitstops. But that strategy has backfired as he has lost places to both Malukas and Palou.
