KEY MOMENTS

The 2026 24 Hours of Le Mans begins today, Saturday 13 June, with BMW starting on pole for the first time in the top class. 

The world's most famous 24-hour race will host its 94th edition this weekend, as 186 drivers across 62 cars and three classes battle for victory. 

The 2026 edition of the 24 Hours of Le Mans will see BMW start on pole for the first time, after a dramatic Hyperpole session on Thursday evening. 

The No.15 WRT-run BMW crew of Kevin Magnussen, Raffele Marciello and Dries Vanthoor, inherited pole after the No.38 Hertz Team Jota Cadillac of Jack Aitken, Earl Bamber and Sebastien Bourdais had their pole time cancelled post-session. 

The No.38 Cadillac was dropped to 10th on the grid. 

Last year's Le Mans-winning customer Ferrari AF Corse entry - the No.83 car - driven by Robert Kubica, Yifei Ye and Phil Hanson was the big shock of qualifying, as it failed to get into Hyperpole. 

The No.83 car will defend its Le Mans crown from 17th on the grid.  

Ferrari only got one car into the final part of Hyperpole on Thursday night, with the No.51 car of Alessandro Pier Guidi, James Calado and Antonio Giovonazzi a best of eighth on the grid. 

The Scuderia will be aiming for its fourth successive 24 Hours of Le Mans win this weekend, but will face stiff competition from a Hypercar field that looks wide open.

That's worked out really well for the No.12, who clears all of that traffic by the Porsche Curves. Hartley, in the No.8, hasn't been able to clear that until Karting. So, the gap is up to 2.1s.

There's a big train of LMGT3 cars in front of this lead battle.

That lead gap has come right down amid more traffic clearing. The No.12 is just 0.8s ahead of the No.8 now.

As it stands, the No.12 Cadillac is 2.7s clear of the No.8 Toyota, with the No.7 now 15s off the lead and the No.20 33s back. So, it's opened up again.

So, after that pitstop cycle, the No.12 Cadillac has rejoined in the lead from the No.8 Toyota. The gap is 5.4s.

The No.7 is now in, as is the No.12.

The No.20 takes on four new tyres and a new driver in Sheldon van der Linde. The No.20 rejoins in fifth behind the No.8 Toyota.

The No.7 has been able to extend to 13 laps on this stint and is on the same fuel level as the leading No.12 Cadillac now.

That's a disaster for Frijns as I think he changed tyres at his last stop, too. So, that's going to cost him.

BMW has just told Frijns that he's got a slow puncture. So, that would explain the time drop.

There's three hours and 45 minutes to go, so it's way too early to say his challenge is over. But the No.20 BMW with Frijns at the wheel is dropping away from this lead group. He's now 11s down on third.

The No.15 BMW hasn't officially retired from this race, but it's 45 laps down after coming in earlier this morning with an electrical issue.

The No.12 has pulled 1.2s on the Toyota pair behind now through this latest batch of traffic.

The temperature is really coming up as all of the leaders are complaining about the tyres sliding around now.
