2025 Spanish MotoGP: Friday Practice As It Happened

Live coverage of the Friday practice sessions from the 2025 Spanish MotoGP.

MotoGP kicks off it's European leg this weekend with the Spanish Grand Prix at Jerez.

FP1 this morning was topped by Alex Marquez who was the only rider in the 1:36s thanks to a late time attack.

The one-hour Practice session that will decide the 10 riders which will advance straight to Q2 tomorrow is scheduled for 15:00 local time.

Speaking of Marquez, Marc is back out on track now. Unclear what the issue was in his initial run that saw him enter the pits so soon.

09:57

Quartararo has finally improved on his initial time. He'd moved up to fifth, and is now second, around 0.2s behind Marquez.

09:56

For reference, the race lap record was set last year by Francesco Bagnaia at a 1:37.449, so we're already under that. The all-time lap record is also Bagnaia's at a 1:36.025.

09:54

Marquez improves his time at the top, down to a 1:37.239 now.

09:53

Fabio Quartararo has had both of his last two laps cancelled for track limits, so he's still on his 1:39.294 from his opening lap.

09:52

Times are scrolling as you'd expect early on here. Raul Fernandez was briefly fastest, but Alex Marquez has now hit the top with the first 1:37 of the day.

Jack Miller into the 1:37s soon after, too.

09:50

Marc Marquez has returned to the pits without completing a flying lap.

09:50

The first flying laps are in now, and it's Fabio Quartararo who's taken the early top spot with a 1:39.294.

09:48

Augusto Fernandez is back in place of Miguel Oliveira at the Pramac Yamaha team this weekend, as the Portuguese rider's recovery from injury continues.

Aleix Espargaro is also back in action this weekend for the first time since the Solidarity GP last year and for the first time as a Honda rider having joined HRC as one of its official MotoGP test riders over the winter.

FP1 start

FP1 is underway with a green light at the end of pit lane at Jerez.

09:45

As we're sure you're aware Jorge Martin is out of action this weekend again after his crash at Qatar last time out and subsequent contact with Fabio Di Giannantonio.

Martin is set to return home to Spain on Saturday after spending an extended period in Qatar as a result of the multiple rib fractures and pneumothorax he suffered in Lusail.

The reigning champion will be replaced again by Lorenzo Savadori this weekend.

09:43

Marc Marquez leads the World Championship heading into this weekend, 17 points ahead of Alex Marquez, with Francesco Bagnaia a further nine points back.

Marquez and Bagnaia were embroiled in one of the best battles we saw last year for victory at Jerez, but the Spaniard's domination of this season so far means there is work to do for Bagnaia if he is to take the fight to his teammate this weekend - that work, of course, starts this morning in FP1.
