2025 Italian MotoGP: Friday practice LIVE UPDATES!

Live updates from Friday practice at the 2025 MotoGP Italian Grand Prix

The 2025 MotoGP season continues with its ninth round from 20-22 June, as the series heads to Italy for its first of two visits this year.

The Italian Grand Prix held at Mugello is one of the most popular events on the calendar among the riders thanks to the circuit's picturesque setting and fast, flowing layout.

Marc Marquez comes into the Italian Grand Prix leading the championship by 32 points after a perfect weekend last time out at Aragon, where he topped every single session on his factory Ducati.

He has been without a win at Mugello since 2014, with Ducati team-mate Pecco Bagnaia king of the venue in recent years with three wins on the bounce coming into this year's event.

Bagnaia made a breakthrough with his motorcycle at Aragon and is expected to take another step forward at his stronghold of Mugello this weekend. And he'll need to, with 93 points separating him from championship leader Marc Marquez.

Alex Marquez comes into the round as his elder brother's nearest challenger in second in the standings.

FP1 begins at 9:45am BST, while Practice starts at 2pm BST.

Chequered flag - FP1

The chequered flag is out and Marco Bezzecchi has gone to the top of the order at the death on a new medium rear with a 1m46.199s.

10:31

Acosta had a big run-off at the final corner but escpaes the gravel.

10:28

Pedro Acosta leads the way with a 1m46.199s on a new medium rear in the closing stages of FP1.

10:22

Bit of a moment for Bagnaia on the way into Turn 4. Rear got loose on the brakes and sent him into the gravel.

10:20

10 minutes to go in FP1.

Marc Marquez is still fastest on a 1m46.293s.

10:15

10:10

Marc Marquez also runs wide at Turn 1, but doesn't get as far as the gravel.

Most out on the soft front right now, but it's already looking a bit too soft for these conditions.

10:09

Pedro Acosta is the latest rider to have a run-off at Turn 1 but he's found his way out of the gravel again.

10:07

Marc Marquez has gone to the top of the order with a 1m46.293s on a used medium rear.

10:06

Maverick Vinales has used a fresh medium rear to vault up to fourth on his Tech3 KTM.

10:04

KTM appears to have put all four of its bikes into a blender as all of them are on a mix of different parts in a bid to try and fix these rear chatter issues it has been having.

But this is somewhat going against team manager Aki Ajo's pre-season mandate of keeping things simple.

10:03

For reference, the lap record at Mugello is a 1m44.504s set by Jorge Martin.

09:54

Aprilia's Marco Bezzecchi is now top of the pile with a 1m46.404s.

09:53

Bagnaia has one new aero update and the standard version he has been running so far this year, while team-mate Marc Marquez is sticking with the standard one.

09:51

But that was short-lived, as Bagnaia goes back to the top with a 1m46.651s.

09:51

Brad Binder is now top of the charts with a 1m47.311s on the factory KTM.

09:49

First laps on the board and Pecco Bagnaia sets the early pace at 1m47.566s.

09:47
Rider change

Just one change on the grid this weekend.

Takaaki Nakagami is in at the factory Honda team for the injured Luca Marini.

09:46
Green flag

The green flag is out for the start of FP1.

09:42

It may only be 10:40am at Mugello right now, but it's already 28 degrees C air temp and 43 degrees C track temp.

That is unbearably hot!

09:40

Pecco Bagnaia is the form rider as far as recent success at Mugello is concerned.

He has won the last three Italian Grands Prix on the factory Ducati and comes to this year's Italian GP having made a breakthrough with the front end of his GP25 at Aragon.

A change in brake disc size for the Aragon GP helped Bagnaia be more competitive and he'll be looking to carry that progress on this weekend.

On Thursday, he admitted that if he's not fast here then something is wrong.

09:35
Championship standings

Coming into this round, the championship standings look like this:

  1. M.Marquez - 233
  2. A.Marquez - 201
  3. Bagnaia - 140
  4. Morbidelli - 115
  5. Di Giannantonio - 99
  6. Zarco - 97
  7. Bezzecchi - 79
  8. Acosta - 76
  9. Aldeguer - 73
  10. Quartararo - 59
09:32
