Riders back out

Aleix Espargaro and Alex Marquez have both been able to get back out on track following the red flag, after their respective crashes earlier on.

14:38
Green flag

We're back underway again after a clean-up from the Ogura crash. 30 minutes left.

14:29
Red flag

Ogura has crashed at turn 11. His Aprilia burst into flames as it tumbled into the gravel.

Red flag thrown with 31 minutes remaining in the session.

Ogura able to walk away and is now riding on a scooter back to the paddock.

14:26
Quartararo fastest

Quartararo into the 1:31s now and fastest on a 1:31.968.

14:25

Quartararo now to P3 with soft front and rear. 1:32.186.

He was briefly second but Di Giannantonio beat him by 0.006s a few seconds later.

14:24

Morbidelli back out now as well. He's up to 15th with his latest lap.

Aldeguer back out as well and his first lap puts him 16th.

14:21

Zarco back out on track on soft front and rear, goes P7 with his first representative lap on a 1:32.954.

14:20

Faster again on the next lap for Marquez. Into the 1:31s now on a 1:31.993, which is fairly neat.

14:19
Marquez fastest

Marc Marquez now to the top on a 1:32.186.

Alex Rins has joined him out there now on the soft front, soft rear combination. No time yet for Rins.

14:17

Marquez puts his first time of the session in and he goes fourth on a 1:32.859.

14:15

Marc Marquez just heading out now with 46 minutes to go. No time set yet for the championship leader.

He's gone out with his soft front tyre from this morning, and a fresh soft rear.

14:14

Some split on rear tyre compoounds.

Among the top six positions, they are as follows:

Bezzecchi - soft

Quartararo - medium

Bagnaia - soft

Vinales - medium

Binder - soft

Oliveira - soft

14:12

Quartararo briefly to the top but he's replaced by Bezzecchi.

14:11

While a quarter of the field has been tumbling through the gravel, Bagnaia has gone fastest on a 1:32.556, ahead of Bezzecchi and Quartararo.

14:09
Espargaro and Bastianini also down

Espargaro and Bastianini also down now.

Espargaro at turn seven, same as Aldeguer, and Bastianini joined Zarco in the gravel at the final chicane.

14:08

Morbidelli's crash was at turn 12, and he's gone down in a big way there. Fortunate to get away with that one.

Aldeguer's was at turn seven, where Acosta crashed on the final lap last year.

Zarco went down at the final chicane.

14:06
More crashes

Crashes now also for Aldeguer, Zarco, and Morbidelli.

Aldeguer and Morbidelli both able to walk away. Zarco, too.

14:05

Everyone out there on the medium compound front tyre, as was Marquez when he crashed. 26C of track temperature being recorded at the moment.

Everyone was with the soft front this morning, which indicated that it might not be the preferred choice for the weekend.

14:03
Alex Marquez crash

Alex Marquez has crashed in the opening two minutes in Practice. He's gone down at turn one but has been able to walk away and hop on a scooter back to the pits.

Looks like he's just lost the front as he was tipping in on the brakes to turn one.

14:00
FP2 start

Pit lane is open and we are underway for one hour of Practice in Assen.

13:59

Vinales was not the only non-Ducati toward the top of the times this morning - Marco Bezzecchi was up in fourth, too, on the Aprilia.

Both have been strong at Assen in the past, Vinales winning in 2019, and Bezzecchi taking a Sprint win in 2023.

13:57

Francesco Bagnaia was fourth-fastest this morning. The Italian has won the past three editions of the Dutch TT, but it would be quite a turnaround from recent races for him to extend that winning streak in the Netherlands this weekend.

13:54

Marc Marquez began his weekend with a huge crash at turn 15 this morning.

He seemed to be in trouble with his hand, but was then reported to be complaining about soreness in his left forearm as well.

But he went back out after his crash and ended up topping the session by 0.313s ahead of Maverick Vinales.

13:49
Practice

Welcome back to our live coverage of today's MotoGP practices from Assen.

Practice will be coming up in just over 10 minutes at 15:00 local time.

11:34
Marquez rebounds after early crash to top FP1

So, it was Marc Marquez who topped MotoGP FP1 in Assen ahead of Maverick Vinales and Marco Bezzecchi.

Quite the performance from Marquez after his early get-off, especially to then improve on his initial time-topping lap a handful of laps later on a nine-lap-old rear tyre.
