2026 Jerez MotoGP test LIVE: Ai Ogura fastest as session ends

Live text coverage of the Jerez MotoGP in-season test

KEY MOMENTS

  • Ai Ogura tops Jerez test outright
  • Alex Marquez fastest in session one
  • Crash for Bezzecchi
  • Aprilia and Ducati run intriguing new aero parts

The MotoGP paddock remains at Jerez on Monday for the first in-season test of the 2026 season, as teams look for final refinements of their 1000cc machines.

Four in-season tests are scheduled to take place this year, though only two of them have been deemed official, with the others marking the first outings for the Pirelli tyres among race riders.

Monday 27 April marks the first official in-season test of the campaign at Jerez, and will likely be the last chance for most to trial new parts ahead of the shift in development resources fully to the 2027 850cc bikes.

All eyes will be on Ducati to see if the Italian brand can find a significant step with its GP26, after a mixed start to the campaign that has seen it largely on the back foot to Aprilia.

Ducati ended its victory drought on Sunday at the Spanish Grand Prix, after Alex Marquez dominated at Jerez. But it was a performance that somewhat surprised him.

The brand's factory team hasn't scored a podium since Japan last year, with this test vital in helping Marc Marquez find something on his bike as his title challenge already looks in jeopardy after a crash on Sunday at Jerez.

Aprilia will hope to understand why it couldn't find race-winning pace on Sunday in today's test day, with its victory streak snapped by Alex Marquez and Ducati.

At the Spanish Grand Prix, a clear gap emerged between Aprilia and Ducati, and the rest of the pack. The likes of KTM and Honda have a big day ahead of them at Jerez in the test to try to cut into that gap.

Yamaha will have a number of new bits to try and things to reconfirm, as it looks for any way forward from its current position.

2026 Jerez MotoGP Test schedule

Session 2: 12:20pm BST - 5pm BST

27 Apr 2026
11:00

Hour two is in the books and Alex Marquez holds onto top spot with a 1m36.394s.

Full results to follow soon.

10:49

Diogo Moreira has had a crash, but LCR says he is ok.

10:42

Spanish Grand Prix winner Alex Marquez has now taken over top spot with a 1m36.394s, with Johann Zarco now second on the LCR Honda.

10:34

Just over halfway through hour two in session one at the Jerez test, and everyone but Augusto Fernandez has been on track.

The Yamaha test rider looks like he'll have more time on the M1 later this week in some private running.

10:18

Aprilia has provided a brief of what its test plan is today.

•  Marco Bezzecchi: the work will continue with the testing of several components, including a new front fairing with some aerodynamic innovations.

•  Jorge Martin: the programme will mainly focus on evaluating components he has not yet had the opportunity to use, due to missing the winter tests and the tight race weekend schedule. Some aerodynamic tests are also planned.

•  Lorenzo Savadori: usual development work, focusing on data collection and the validation of new components.

•  There will also be electronic tests, and the factory riders will have the opportunity to test certain components that have already been brought to the track by the Trackhouse MotoGP Team. Thanks to the strong collaboration between the two teams, some of these solutions could also prove of interest to the factory team as well.

10:17

Pedro Acosta is now fastest early into hour two of session one with a 1m36.734s.

09:48

Yamaha brought some new parts for the Spanish Grand Prix, but, crucially, it doesn't have a new engine to test. Quartararo wasn't very happy about this at the weekend.

09:43

Di Giannantonio improves to second, 0.66s behind Bezzecchi.

09:41

For those unaware how a test day in MotoGP works:

The day is split into two sessions, with the chequered flag flown after each. This is followed by a brief practice start session.

The practice start session after session one rolls straight into session two, so there's no official break.

09:40

Bezzecchi has found a small lap time gain with a 1m36.769s. He leads Fabio Quartararo and Alex Marquez with 2hrs20mins to go in this session.

09:33

LCR will be hoping to build on the strong weekend it enjoyed at the Spanish Grand Prix today in the test.

09:26

Track is getting busier. We've had laps from reigning champion Marc Marquez now, who has instantly gone up to second.

09:17

Championship leader Bezzecchi takes over top spot with a 1m36.970s.

09:11

Rain on Saturday will have washed away a lot of rubber, so the track today should offer slightly more representative grip conditions to better evaluate new items.

09:10

Luca Marini now fastest with a 1m37.539s.

09:08

Di Giannantonio has now improved to a 1m37.721s.

09:07

Marini heads out on track for Honda.

09:06

Di Giannantonio improves to a 1m38.310s.

The best dry lap of the weekend was a 1m35.7s from Friday Practice.

09:05

Brad Binder and Luca Marini are now out there.

09:05

Intriguingly, Bezzecchi is shadowing Di Giannantonio on track right now. Perhaps he's keen to get a better look at where the Ducati was better than the Aprilia over the weekend?

09:04

Di Giannantonio has gone top with a 1m39.036s.

He didn't run any of the new aero parts and other Ducati updates during the Jerez weekend, as he wanted to focus on the good feeling he already had with his GP26.

So, today is his chance to do some development work.
