2025 Hungarian WorldSBK: Race 1 LIVE UPDATES
Live coverage of Race 1 at the Hungarian WorldSBK from Balaton Park.
The Hungarian WorldSBK at Balaton Park marks the eighth stop on the 2025 World Superbike calendar and the series' first visit to Hungary since 1990.
Race 1 is set to get underway this afternoon at 14:00 local time.
Sam Lowes was fastest in FP2 on Friday and FP3 this morning. Yesterday, only he and Toprak Razgatlioglu lapped in the 1:39s; this morning they were the only two in the 1:38s.
Razgatlioglu comes into this weekend defending a three-point lead in the riders' standings over Nicolo Bulega, who was ninth in FP2 yesterday and sixth this morning, and who had led the standings at every point this season before Razgatliogu's Race 2 win at Donington.
In Superpole, it was Razgatlioglu who took pole position ahead of Lowes and Andrea Locatelli. Nicolo Bulega will start fourth alongside Danilo Petrucci and Iker Lecuona.

Petrucci up to 13th from the back of the grid already, and Iannone has already taken one of his long laps.

We're back underway for Race 1, and it's a holeshot for Razgatlioglu from Locatelli and Lowes who started poorly again but was good at turn one.

Pit lane is open for the quick restart procedure. Looks like no Gardner for the restart. No update on his condition as yet.
Iannone has a double long lap penalty for the restart for irresponsible riding.

Iannone completely lost the rear in braking for turn two which looks like it caused it all. Just a total mess after that, so many bikes in a small space, and such a short distance from the grid even by turn two.

Mistakes
Many riders have spoken this weekend about the difficulty in being consistent at Balaton and avoiding mistakes, and we've seen several riders on multiple occasions running through the many chicanes.
Avoiding those errors could be crucial this afternoon to achieve a strong result.

Sam Lowes
For once this year, it does not seem to be a question of Razgatlioglu vs Bulega today.
Sam Lowes has been stronger than Bulega all weekend, the Italian struggling, relatively speaking, while Lowes has found a good way with the stop-start Balaton track.
Whether Lowes can take the fight to Razgatlioglu over the course of 21 laps remains to be seen but the British rider seems to be his strongest challenger.

Toprak Razgatlioglu has the championship lead and pole position heading into this race.
Four points is his gap over Nicolo Bulega, who starts from the second row in fourth today.
Surely Razgatlioglu, who has won eight of the last nine races, is the favourite for this one, but who really knows at what is a brand new circuit to not only WorldSBK but World Championship motorcycle racing.

Sam Lowes goes second, Razgatlioglu marginally improves despite catching Iannone at the end of his lap and takes pole.
Bulega got up to fourth, too, but Locatelli keeps his spot on the front row.
Petrucci and Lecuona round out the second row.
