Victory for final Triumph ValMoto appearance.

The Triumph ValMoto Daytona made its final appearance on British soil last weekend - with more fantastic results to round off an amazing two years in road racing at the Scarborough International Gold Cup.

John McGuinness competed aboard the yellow Triumph machine in three races. His main reason for participating was the inclusion of a memorial race for his friend and renowned road racer David Jefferies who died at the Isle of Man TT last year.

John McGuinness competed aboard the yellow Triumph machine in three races. His main reason for participating was the inclusion of a memorial race for his friend and renowned road racer David Jefferies who died at the Isle of Man TT last year.

McGuinness opted for the Triumph machine, after previously enjoying success as a member of the manufacturers team at the 2003 TT. However, the team had never before taken the Daytona 600 to the seaside town circuit and it was four years since the rider's last visit there.

Despite this, and just ten minutes each for the practice and qualifying sessions, McGuinness claimed victory in his own heat and scored two third positions in the David Jefferies Memorial Race to finish second overall to experienced public roads racer Ryan Farquhar.

"I'm really pleased with John's results at the weekend and it's great to have ended the bike's final appearance in Britain on the podium," said the ValMoto team manager Jack Valentine. "It was the perfect follow-up to Craig's cracking final British Supersport Championship victory at Donington Park.

"Some of the competitors were riding beyond their limits this weekend, but John wasn't really pushing that hard because it can be a dangerous circuit if riders aren't cautious enough. It was great for him to get the result that he did, but the most important thing to him and the team was actually taking part in the memorial race."
