Double Knockhill win ‘hasn’t quite sunk in yet’ - Buchan

SYNETIQ BMW rider Danny Buchan has moved himself within 20 points of the Bennetts British Superbike championship lead thanks to double Sunday Knockhill victory.

Buchan’s stellar weekend could have been even better as he looked primed for victory in race one before making a mistake while leading.

That led to new championship leader Christian Iddon taking the lead - a position he kept until the checkered flag, while Buchan regrouped to claim third.

Come races two and three, Buchan had a different challenge on his hands with rookie sensation Rory Skinner.

The Scottish rider led nearly every lap of the final race but was pipped by Buchan on lap 24 - one before a red flag brought an early end to the day.

It was the same lap that Buchan made his move for the lead in race two, this time getting the better of Iddon before pulling out a gap of 1 second to Skinner and Tarran Mackenzie by the end.

"To bring home wins for the SYNETIQ BMW team is fantastic - they’ve had a hard few years so to repay those guys on the new M 1000 RR is obviously a fantastic thing for everyone involved." said Buchan after his double win.

"It’s very early days in the project still and we’re still building on it, so I am over the moon.

"To get the double hasn’t quite sunk in just yet, but it’s fantastic. It was a hectic last race and there was a lot going on, and I sort of knew if I got in front I could pull a gap, so the plan was to get my head down and go and that’s what we started to do.

"I started to edge away and then the red flag came out, so I timed it right, lady luck was on my side there definitely, but credit to SYNETIQ BMW. To get two wins today is fantastic for them, so massive credit to the team, my sponsors and everyone involved."
