Buchan claims Knockhill double as O’Halloran loses championship lead

Danny Buchan’ affection for the Knockhill circuit was furthered today after claiming a first British Superbike double.

Buchan came from as low as fifth place during both races to better impressive rookie Rory Skinner, who took a maiden double podium in just his second Superbike round.

After overtaking the FS-3 Kawasaki rider with a few laps to spare in race two, Buchan made his race three winning overtake in the nick of time before a red flag ended the race early.

Buchan got ahead of Skinner on lap 24 - one before Glenn Irwin suffered a big crash at turn two, which left his Honda Racing UK machine stranded in the middle of the track.

Tarran Mackenzie was the top McAMS Yamaha for the first time this year as he claimed a double third place result, while team-mate Jason O’Halloran lost the championship lead due to a surprising race two crash.

O’Halloran’s main title challenger Christian Iddon was off the podium in both races too - first time it's happened this season as he finished fourth in both following yesterday’s race one win.

O’Halloran managed to recover from ninth to sixth in the final race, which leaves him a slender six points behind Iddon heading to round three at Brands Hatch.

Defending series champion Josh Brookes had another round to forget, as a 12th and 13th in both races was the best he could manage.
