The DTM has started the season with a record audience for its opening round at the Hockenheimring Baden-W?rttemberg, April 27. An average of 2.11 million viewers [aged 14 and above] with a peak audience of 2.38 million watched the ZDF-coverage from 13.45 untill 15.15 hours.

The DTM regulations have been amended for 2003 to make the popular series even more exciting. The points system is being altered, the system for qualifying changes, and engine numbers will be controlled.
Italian race for DTM in 2003.
The DMSB [Deutscher Motor Sport Bund e.V.] and the ITR [Internationale Tourenwagen Rennen e.V.] have today announced the 2003 DTM calendar. As in 2002, the calendar includes ten rounds, six of them in Germany and four abroad.

It was excitement until the very last seconds of qualifying for the final round of the 2001 DTM at the Hockenheimring. After a total of seven lead changes, Opel-driver Michael Bartels set the best lap time in qualifying - the first pole-position for Opel in 2001.
