Max Verstappen wins F1 Azerbaijan Grand Prix - as it happened

Max Verstappen won the F1 Azerbaijan Grand Prix - but Red Bull team orders are the big talking point again.

Verstappen was able to pass teammate Sergio Perez to move into the lead.

Meanwhile both Ferraris failed to finish the race!

And Lewis Hamilton was left in pain due to porpoising...

Christian Horner tells Sky about Red Bull team orders

"Our guys had done their racing by then, and Max had less degradation to his car than Checo did. They have been very fair with each other. They did what we asked them to this morning - ‘if you find yourselves racing, give each other space’. They did that.

"The problem was that, when Charles went out of the race, you are thinking ‘what could go wrong?’ With the pace advantage we had over Mercedes, it was just a case of managing the race and bringing them home.

"[Perez] had a great start but started to get into rear tyre graining. Maybe we emphasised too much qualifying on his side of the garage. Whereas Max’s car had better deg in the race. The drivers contribute to that, as well. The way that the two of them are working is fantastic.

"It was a mature drive [from Max]. Redemption for last year and the frustration he had with his tyre blowout. It was like a Le Mans drive. We gave him a lap time to drive to, to take the risk out. Checo was harder on rear deg which is unusual for him."

Mattia Binotto

"Reliability is always a key factor in the battle, along with performance. We are not yet fully reliable, there is work to be done. We didn’t get euphoric at the start of the season and we will not be [divided] now. The team will remain focused, trying to address our issues, to make us stronger in the future. We need to understand and analyse what happened today - we must take time to analyse. Maybe this was the same [as previous issues] or maybe not.

"The Zhou one is not related to our supplied components. Whatever is happening there is always useful. We supply customer teams not for business, not for economics, but for technical feedback."

Carlos Sainz

"The hydraulics went. It is a shame. I was about to start my race, to start pushing towards the front, but this happened. It is a bad day for the team. We must make sure that we stay together, stay positive. Better days will come. The 2022 season is definitely going my way.

We have been pretty good with reliability but, on my side, we have been terribly unlucky. It has been tough to get consistency, I cannot do two normal races without something happening. I need laps, to complete races, to keep understanding the car. But we are a team and we must stay united, to stay positive."
