Deep Purple rock the Australian GP.
Deep Purple, the world's premier rock/metal band, have confirmed that they will perform at the Australian Grand Prix in Melbourne. The legendary group, led by Ian Gillan, will perform a four-song showcase on Saturday 3 March.

Prost announce engine-name partner.
Prost Grand Prix has announced that it has signed a deal with Information Technology Company Acer. Starting from 2001 the Prost GP's engine supplied by Ferrari will be badged as an "Acer".
Prost doesn't want to tempt fate.
Alain Prost has told his driver Jean Alesi not to get too excited and to keep things in perspective. Prost told ITV Sport: "Jean has been really happy with the car and the tyres. But I've told him to calm down because we know it is not going to be easy."
Rahal critical of Irvine.
Jaguar boss Bobby Rahal has criticised Eddie Irvine for his recent comments when the outspoken playboy said the new Jaguar was "too slow" and the technical team was "under staffed."
Fiorano test - day 1: 21 February
Ferrari finished its preparations yesterday for the Australian GP with Michael Schumacher testing at Fiorano. Michael Schumacher took to the track at 10 o'clock and finished work at 18.15. The world champion covered a total of 82 laps, with a best time of 1.00.518.
Barcelona test - day 1: 21 February.
McLaren test driver Alexander Wurz topped the times yesterday in testing at Barcelona. Teammate David Coulthard only completed four laps as technical problems ended his day before it had virtually begun.
Commemorative badge on all 2001 Ferrari cars.
To commemorate Ferrari's victory in the Formula 1 Drivers' and Constructors' Championships in 2000, all cars produced during 2001 - including the 550 Barchetta Pininfarina - will be equipped with a special badge on the glove box lid.

Italian PO issues special Ferrari stamp.
The Italian postal service is to launch a special stamp in March celebrating Ferrari's 2000 World Championship titles. The stamp, features the F1-2000 on a chequered flag and will be on sale in Italy from March 9.

Pedro de la Rosa looks set to join the Jaguar team this year but not as a replacement for any of the current drivers.

The News of the World has claimed today that McLaren Mercedes driver David Coulthard cheated on his fiancee Heidi Wichlinski with 20 year old model Ruth Taylor.

2000 World Champion Michael Schumacher has failed to stop a German Art gallery from putting a nude painting of him on show.

Fernando Alonso gets the vote of confidence.
New Minardi boss, Paul Stoddart has said that F1 will be surprised by rookie Fernando Alonso this year. Stoddart said: "Alonso has definitely got a future. I watched him very closely towards the end of the Formula 3000 season last year and he is special."
Bookmakers opt for Michael Schumacher in 2001.
Three times World Champion Michael Schumacher is the bookmakers favourite to take the Formula One title in 2001. Internatioal All Sports rated the Ferrari No 1 drivers chances at 12/10 with Mika Hakkinen at 2/1 and David Coulthard at 4/1.
Arrows sign Nicolo Petrucci.
Arrows announced yesterday the signing of ex-Ferrari man Nicolo Petrucci. It is believed he will replace the Jordan bound designer Eghbal Hamidy.

Head talks about Montoya and Ralf Schumacher.
Patrick Head has said that he will be startled if 1999 Champ Car series champion Juan Pablo Montoya beats Ralf Schumacher over the entire 2001 season.
Head blames Senna crash for Williams' decline.
Patrick Head has said that Ayrton Senna's fatal crash at Imola in 1994 was partly to blame for the teams fall from grace. He told the BBC: "The events of 1994 put conservatism in us and it was right and proper that it did. But now we are set up in a much more broader way."

Positive six day test for BAR in South Africa.
The BAR Honda team concluded a successful six day test before the start of the 2001 Formula One season.

Leaving no dispute about Formula One's massive popularity, some of the greatest names from the worlds of F1 and music received a standing ovation at the Royal Albert Hall on Monday night when, for the first time, they joined forces to embrace the 2001 Grand Prix Party.
