KEY MOMENTS

The 2026 24 Hours of Le Mans begins today, Saturday 13 June, with BMW starting on pole for the first time in the top class. 

The world's most famous 24-hour race will host its 94th edition this weekend, as 186 drivers across 62 cars and three classes battle for victory. 

The 2026 edition of the 24 Hours of Le Mans will see BMW start on pole for the first time, after a dramatic Hyperpole session on Thursday evening. 

The No.15 WRT-run BMW crew of Kevin Magnussen, Raffele Marciello and Dries Vanthoor, inherited pole after the No.38 Hertz Team Jota Cadillac of Jack Aitken, Earl Bamber and Sebastien Bourdais had their pole time cancelled post-session. 

The No.38 Cadillac was dropped to 10th on the grid. 

Last year's Le Mans-winning customer Ferrari AF Corse entry - the No.83 car - driven by Robert Kubica, Yifei Ye and Phil Hanson was the big shock of qualifying, as it failed to get into Hyperpole. 

The No.83 car will defend its Le Mans crown from 17th on the grid.  

Ferrari only got one car into the final part of Hyperpole on Thursday night, with the No.51 car of Alessandro Pier Guidi, James Calado and Antonio Giovonazzi a best of eighth on the grid. 

The Scuderia will be aiming for its fourth successive 24 Hours of Le Mans win this weekend, but will face stiff competition from a Hypercar field that looks wide open.

The No.20 Cadillac is back in the race and retained the lead, and now leads a Cadillac 1-2 as the No.38 machine is now in second place.

Will Stevens and the No.12 Cadillac now enter the pits, as well as the No.20 BMW, which was running in second place.

Cadillac gain the lead

Will Stevens in the No.12 Cadillac grabbed the lead of the 2026 24 Hours of Le Mans after the No.8 Toyota entered the pits.

The No.38 Cadillac pit from third place, with Earl Bamber making way for Jack Aitken, who rejoined in fifth place.

The No.12 Cadillac, being driven by Will Stevens, is within one second and could challenge for the lead.

A mistake at the front

The No.8 Toyota had a moment whilst leading, which allowed the No.12 Cadillac to catch up and challenge for the lead.

The No.7 Toyota, being driven by Nyck de Vries, has pitted from sixth place, and dropped back to 10th place behind the No.19 Genesis.

The No.007 Aston Martin has pitted from seventh place, and rejoined the race in 12th place with Ross Gunn now behind the wheel.

Out on track and the No.35 Alpine, the No.83 Ferrari, and the No.36 Alpine are battling for eighth place.

The No.51 Ferrari, being driven by Antonio Giovinazzi, has pitted and dropped back from sixth place to 12th.

The No.19 Genesis had just set their fastest lap, but entered the pits with Mathieu Jaminet dropping from fifth to 12th.

Toyota back in the lead

The front three are in the pits with the No.12 Cadillac, the No.38 Cadillac, and the No.20 BMW all pitting with the No.8 Toyota retaking the lead.

A change at the front

The No.12 Cadillac is now in the lead, after the No.8 Toyota pitted and swapped drivers, with Brendon Hartley now behind the wheel in fourth place.

The No.35 Alpine had a disaster of a pit stop as they dropped from sixth to 11th during its stop, and are now behind the No.7 Toyota.

The No.50 Ferrari is looking to rejoin the race after a lengthy period of time inside the pits. They have rejoined in 18th place in the Hypercar class, and are 8 Laps down on the leader.

The No.101 Cadillac entered the pits, and dropped back from fifth place to seventh, promoting the No.36 and No.35 Alpine's into fifth and sixth place.

More pit activities as the No.04 Peugeot and the No.15 BMW have both come into the pits, and exited the pit lane in 14th and 17th place respectively.

The No.53 Ferrari has now swapped drivers as Robert Kubica is in the car, and he has a fresh set of medium tyres on his car.

The No.7 Toyota have come into the pits for a driver and tyre change as Nyck de Vries is now in the car, and they have rejoined in 13th place.

The No.51 Ferrari is still in the pits, with the team trying all they can to get the car back on track, but they have fallen back to 17th.

It has been reported that they have suffered a fire extinguisher issue inside the car.

Cadillac have made its way into second and third after the No.12, driven by Will Stevens, took second, and the No.38, driven by Earl Bamber, took third.

The No.20 BMW driven by Rene Rast is now down in fourth place.

The No.51 Ferrari and the No.009 Aston Martin also entered the pits. The No.51 rejoined in 13th place, and the No.009 rejoined in 15th.
