This has probably got to be the most wide open pole battle of the season coming up.
Here is your Q2 group:
- Johann Zarco
- Luca Marini
- Fabio Quartararo
- Franco Morbidelli
- Enea Bastianini
- Brad Binder
- Pedro Acosta
- Fabio Di Giannantonio
- Marco Bezzecchi
- Alex Marquez
- Ai Ogura
- Marc Marquez
I think this is Bagnaia's worst qualifying since Portugal 2022, when he didn't take part in the session after a heavy crash in practice.
Quartararo and DiGia go through to Q2.
The grid behind is:
- Fermin Aldeguer
- Jack Miller
- Raul Fernandez
- Miguel Oliveira
- Joan Mir
- Jorge Martin
- Aleix Espargaro
- Alex Rins
- Pecco Bagnaia
- Maverick Vinales
- Lorenzo Savadori
- Somkiat Chantra
Stewards deem no further action on DiGia incident.
Bagnaia has taken the chequered flag in 11th. 21st is where he will start the Catalan Grand Prix he won last year! It's his worst qualifying of the season by some margin. Previously, it was 15th in Hungary.
Chequered flag is out. Still a few quick laps coming in to challenge Quartararo and DiGia.
Bagnaia completes a lap and he is only 12th, 0.707s off the pace. He's staring at his worst qualifying of the year here!
Quartararo gets a nod of approval from Andrea Dovizioso on the Yamaha pit wall.
Aldeguer up to third, just a few thousandths outside of a Q2 place.
Quartararo posts the first ever 1m37s lap of Barcelona. He's top with a 1m37.906s from Di Giannantonio.
Fernandez goes top with a 1m38.206s ahead of Oliveira on a 1m38.210s.
FIM stewards are investigating that incident.
There could well be some penalties coming there. Let's see what the stewards think over the break after qualifying.
Five minutes to go and DiGia is furious with a whole pack of riders slowly coming out of pitlane. He's had to abort that.
Gigi Dall'Igna looks on as Bagnaia comes into pitlane and looks like he's just been told he won the lottery but lost the ticket.
First runs are done. Order is:
- Di Giannantonio - 1m38.231s
- Mir
- Quartararo
- Espargaro
- Miller
- Aldeguer
- Martin
- Vinales
- Fernandez
- Bagnaia
- Rins
- Oliveira
- Savadori
- Chantra
Bagnaia has finally done his first 1m38s of the weekend, but he's 10th with a 1m38.861s - 0.630s down.
Mir goes second with a 1m38.326s, 0.095s off pole. Big gap of 0.268s to Aleix Espargaro in an impressive third.
I think we can safely say the lap record is going in this session.
First laps on the board. DiGia leads with a 1m38.231s from Miller and Quartararo.
That lap from the VR46 rider is the second-best time of the weekend!
Q1 is underway.
Pecco Bagnaia said on Friday that he felt it was "a miracle" if he gets into Q2 in this session.
He has yet to post a 1m38s this weekend.
That Q1 group features the four most recent world champions.
It's going to be a hard one to get out of. The Honda has been going well and Joan Mir topped FP2. Quartararo is always a demon on time attack.
Fermin Aldeguer will be a threat on the GP24. Di Giannantonio looked to make a step in FP2. Maverick Vinales will likely have something to say in this session on the KTM too.
