The 2004 Konica Minolta V8 Supercar series kicks off for the Peters Motorsport team this coming weekend, Feb 21/22 at Wakefield Park just outside Goulburn in New South Wales.

Wakefield Park was the season opener last year and bought the team's only win, Queensland driver Brett Peters winning the reverse grid race from mid-pack.

2004 expects to be even tougher season with even more level one teams running "young guns", driver Brett Peters said.

"Over the off season our team has been busy rebuilding our Greenfield Mowers Falcon AU, it now has a new engine, new shock absorbers and an adjustable rear end, just what we need to take on the professional teams." he added.

"Last year was a learning year for the whole team, it is great to have our sponsors Greenfield Mowers, Century Batteries, Nikon, Toku, Camera House, Harcourts return for another season plus we welcome on board CNW Electrical Wholesalers."

The team finished on high note last year with their best qualifying result in the last round and a 4th place in the championship. This together with a podium place at Phillip Island meant it couldn't have been a much better debut year for ex. GTP team.

Team boss Rod Dawson added, "Even though Brett struggled to master qualifying the V8, the race pace of the car was great all last year. When you consider Brett got crashed into at Eastern Creek, tagged someone at Winton and lost a pile of positions at Adelaide with a few laps to go, we thought a top three was possible.

"With a season of driving the V8 under his belt, along with upgrades to the car, we believe that even with increased competition the team will be stronger this season."

"Last year we got the car only a couple of weeks prior to the first round, had one test day and off we went. We virtually had no spares all season, so I had to drive within myself and keep it clean. The Konica Minolta series is full of young chargers, which makes it the most exciting series in Australia, so you have to lean back (when they push you) where necessary - this year I will be going for it!" Brett commented

"This year's championship starts off much the same as last, Wakefield followed by Adelaide's Clipsal 500, March 18-21. Round 3 is Winton April 10/11, followed by Eastern Creek May 29/30, Queensland Raceway July 2-4 and finishing at South Australia's Mallala Raceway, Aug. 21/22.

In addition the team will contest the non-championship Konica Minolta Race on Saturday at the Bob Jane TMart Bathurst 1000, Oct. 9.
