Brad Jones admits that both his team and him personally have not had the best of preparations for this weekend's V8 Supercars' round 6 at Queensland Raceway, in fact the last week has been the most difficult in his life.

Last Tuesday, Brad's much endeared father Phil Jones passed away - the person that was far and away the most influential person on Brad's highly successful motorsport career and his most staunch supporter.

With just a few days to go before engines are fired up at Queensland Raceway, Jones and the entire team at BJR are now back in full swing and have promised themselves and fans alike that the hindered preparations will not affect the continuation of their impressive efforts from the last few rounds.

"There's no doubt that the last week has been tough, not only on me and Kim (Brads brother) but all of us at BJR," said Jones. "Dad was as much a part of the team as anyone and we are all struggling with knowing he's no longer around checking how things are going," said an emotional Brad Jones.

"Dad's number one passion was car racing and it's no coincidence that Kim and I ended up involved in it. He was so proud that both of his sons were able to be successful in motorsport and that's something that has driven me."

BJR, in their OzEmail Falcons, have cemented themselves as the second best Ford team in the 2004 V8 Supercar Championship over the last two rounds. Drivers Brad Jones and John Bowe have not only shown improved car speed but have enjoyed enviable consistency.

"We said that Perth was the turning point for us. John (Bowe) was very competitive in finishing 5th overall and my incident-free 12th was a much better reflection of our potential. We had a test session last Tuesday and both cars continued to show the gains we've been getting all year.

When questioned on whether he will treat this round any different, Brad commented - "Absolutely not! I'll be giving the same 100% that I always have and that's something that Dad would expect. I'm just looking forward to getting in the OzEmail Falcon and doing what I know best."

Phil Jones, father to Brad and Kim Jones and grandfather to Andrew Jones passed away last Tuesday. Phil spent over 50 years dedicated not only to the racing pursuits of his family but to motorsport nationally. As an administrator, backer and passionate supporter, his legacy will remain firmly entrenched within car racing circles forever.

The Jones family would like to extend their sincere thanks to all of those people that have paid their respects and offered support during this emotional time.
