Ellery set for charge.

Super Cheap Auto Racing's Steven Ellery will employ the same tactics which provided him with a recent top six result to propel him up the grid at round eight of the 2004 V8 Supercar Championship at Oran Park Raceway on Sunday.

In less than perfect weather conditions, Ellery climbed from a qualifying position of 27th to sixth overall at Winton Motor Raceway just three weeks ago.

Sunday, Ellery will be striving for a similar result and will draw on the strategic experience of Super Cheap Auto Racing to advance him up the order from grid position 18.

"We proved last round that if you can come up with a good strategy and stay out of trouble it is possible to finish a race inside the top ten after starting from the back of the grid," Ellery said.

"Qualifying 18th is nine positions higher than Winton and with that in mind I have no doubt that we can complete tomorrow's two races with an even better round result."

This thought is echoed by Super Cheap Auto Racing Team Manager, John McLean.

"The team have developed a proven back of the grid strategy which saw us make up more than 20 positions at Winton. It is this strategy and tomorrow's two race format which will help bring about continued improvement this weekend," McLean commented.

With the race format of the round consisting of two 54 lap races, Ellery believes he will make up a number of positions due to the efficiency of the crew and the quick pit stops completed by them recently.

"I usually prefer the longer races and with both of tomorrow's two racing consisting of 54 laps it is by no means a sprint. I really feel the format for the round will fall to our advantage," Ellery noted.

"The guys have been completing some excellent pit stops lately and at Winton I made up a considerable number of positions due to work of the crew. With two tyre changes this weekend, there will be double the opportunity to improve on our track position."

Qualifying has already seen Ellery improve on his results of the weekend and he is expecting to continue this momentum during tomorrow's two 54 lap races.

"After qualifying I improved on my position in practice and I am sure over tomorrow's two races this will continue," Ellery noted.

"The results achieved at Winton were fantastic and provided me with a lot of confidence after an extremely challenging first half of the season. I can't wait until tomorrow's races to continue with the improvement of last round."
