The waiting is over after Shell Helix driver Steve Johnson confirmed that he will wheel a Ford Falcon for father Dick Johnson's Dick Johnson Racing team again next season.

Johnson Jr admitted to having considered leaving the family team, but decided that another year could see the squad return to the front of the field.

"The decision [to stay] was an extremely tough one to make as I did have other offers, but I'm happy to say that I will be with DJR in 2005," he said, "The team has improved a lot this year, really stepped up, but we still need to continue to improve to be a major threat next year. [Despite that,] I think that we are a good chance to win races next year."

The team's managing director, Steve Chalker, said that he was pleased to have Johnson on board for 2005, where he will be partnered by FPR refugee Glenn Seton.

"Everyone is obviously delighted that Steve has agreed to stay with DJR," Chalker said, "There's been a lot of pressure on Steve to make a decision, and it is one that he has not made lightly. However, I think that he can see where the team is headed and that is exciting for him and his championship prospects.

"A Steve Johnson and Glenn Seton partnership will be extremely competitive - everyone is looking forward to success in 2005."
