Rick Kelly loses points over Bright crash.

Rick Kelly has been docked fifty points from his V8 Supercar Series championship tally after series officials met to discuss the incident between the younger Kelly driver in the series and Holden front-runner, Jason Bright at Surfers Paradise.

Kelly entered the Surfers Paradise round of the Australian V8 Supercar Series on a high, with a second Bathurst victory notched up at the previous round and the talk was of how the young star deserved No.1 status at his KMart Racing team. The weekend was not a good showing from the young star however.

Kelly entered the Surfers Paradise round of the Australian V8 Supercar Series on a high, with a second Bathurst victory notched up at the previous round and the talk was of how the young star deserved No.1 status at his KMart Racing team. The weekend was not a good showing from the young star however.

In the first race Kelly punted Russell Ingall around at the very first corner, gained a drive-trough penalty and incurred the wraith of reigning champion Marcos Ambrose.

Come race two at Surfers, Kelly was once more having a contact-rich race but it was the unnecessary move on Jason Bright, pitching the Holden championship contender into the Indy wall, which the stewards have seen fit to penalise.

Kelly gains a $5000 (AUS) fine and loses fifty points to move him from fourth to fifth in the drivers standings.

Kelly set the 23rd fastest time in first practice at Symmons Plains, whilst Jason Bright who had to revert to his old car, was 15th fastest.
