Holden Young Lions roar once more.

Holden Motorsport has resurrected its Holden Young Lions driver development program for the 2006 V8 Supercar Championship Series and Fujitsu V8 Supercar Series, in an effort to increase the talent rising through The General's ranks.

Five young guns have been announced as HYL-supported drivers for 2006 including Team Sirromet Wines' Fabian Coulthard and Alan Gurr representing the initiative in the premier level, with Shane Price and Jack Perkins of Perkins Engineering combining with Tony D'Alberto from GMAC Racing flying the Young Lions flag in the Fujitsu championship.

Having developed talent such as Todd and Rick Kelly, Jason Bargwanna and Steven Ellery the 2006 Holden Young Lions program wishes to emulate this success and develop its five nominated drivers for future success, according to Holden Motorsport manager, Simon McNamara.

"The Young Lions program has produced so much success that we want to be able to give some of its benefits to the emerging Holden drivers of the future," said McNamara.

"We'll open doors for them in the areas of media coaching and training, assist with introductions to relevant and important industry figures and generally help them develop their careers."

Both Alan Gurr and Fabian Coulthard have already competed in the V8 Supercar endurance races at Sandown and Bathurst, and each have already sampled sprint racing in 2006 with the former driving the #39 Sirromet Wines Holden at the Clipsal 500 Adelaide, before being rotated with the latter for the Australian Grand Prix support race and the upcoming New Zealand V8 International.

Shane Price and Jack Perkins made their respective V8 Supercar debuts in the Adelaide round of the Fujitsu Series and both finished respectably - with Price sitting inside the championship top ten.

Tony D'Alberto has considerable experience in the Fujitsu Series, and was Holden's best performer in the 2005 championship. This year GMAC has upgraded its sponsorship to be naming rights sponsor of D'Alberto's team, and the young Victorian is set for another big year alongside the Perkins Engineering pair in the tier-two V8 category.
