JBR opts for 'new direction', Chalker axed.

Jim Beam Racing has announced a 'back-to-basics plan', which will see its general manager, Steve Chalker leave the team with immediate effect.

Chalker has apparently 'mutually agreed with the team to pursue other avenues' as the Queensland-based outfit takes 'a new direction for the future'.

A statement to the media explained that as part of the recent company 'restructuring' the team's operations will be 'streamlined' in a bid to 'enhance on-track performance'. It is hoped that this will allow the squad to 'move forward during the remainder of the 2007 season and beyond'.

Team owner Dick Johnson is fully supportive of 'Chalker's move' and emphasised that it is 'business as usual' for squad and that the restructure will have no effect on the team's daily activities.

"Steve Chalker has been a part of our business during the past 5 years and he has guaranteed his full assistance to the team moving forward. At this point, Steve has mutually agreed with the team to pursue other avenues and we most certainly wish him all the best in his future endeavours," Johnson explained.

"This is just the beginning for the team; Jim Beam is extremely supportive and has guaranteed the team's future going forward. The future direction that the team is taking will enhance our performance on the track and it is still 'business as usual' at Dick Johnson Racing despite our recent decision to restructure the company.

"We are very thankful to our fans and sponsors who have been most supportive of the team in recent times and we hope they continue to support us as we take this new direction. Jim Beam Racing is here to stay and I'm sure that those who matter won't believe all of the media hype."

Jim Beam Racing sporting director, Adrian Burgess meanwhile has taken over Chalker's responsibilities in the interim, in addition to all on-track activity for the team.
