Hornsey retires from all forms of racing

Team WD-40 Kawasaki's Sam Hornsey has announced his shock decision that he is retiring from all forms of racing with an immediate effect.

Sam Hornsey has announced his shock decision that he is retiring from all forms of racing with an immediate effect, which is the reason behind his absence from the second round of the MCE British Superbike championship.

Hornsey graduated from the British Supersport championship last year to step into BSB with Team WD-40 Kawasaki and despite competing in the 2016 season opener at Silverstone three weeks ago - claiming a pair of 19th place finishes on debut - he has chosen to step away from racing altogether.

The BSB rookie had been absent from the opening free practice session at Oulton Park and officially announced his retirement via his Facebook page with an explanation behind his decision.

"Sorry for the lack of information on here lately and as the team haven't announced anything and everyone is now already at Oulton Park this weekend, I guess I should let you all know why I am not there," Hornsey said on Facebook. "I officially retired from all forms of racing earlier in the week.

"I will not be continuing in BSB with WD-40 onboard the SBK and for people who keep asking I won't be going to World Supersport with Profile Racing either.

"I'd like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for there long and ongoing support throughout my 6 years in BSB. And I wish every racer a very safe a successful career. Thanks again all."
