Teams load up on ultra-softs for Abu Dhabi GP

Pirelli has confirmed the tyre selections for the final race of the Formula 1 season in Abu Dhabi, with all 20 drivers opting to load up on the ultra-soft compound at Yas Marina.

Pirelli announced earlier this year it would be taking its three softest compounds - soft, super-soft and ultra-soft - to Abu Dhabi due to the low-grip, low-degradation nature of the Yas Marina Circuit, mirroring its selection from last year.

All drivers have opted to go for a large number of ultra-soft tyres, with most opting to go for no more than four combined sets of softs and super-softs, the latter being likely to be used for the final stint of the race only.

Renault has opted for the most conservative tyre selection, taking four sets of super-softs to go with a single set of softs and eight ultra-softs.

By comparison, Daniel Ricciardo, Ferrari duo Sebastian Vettel and Kimi Raikkonen, Force India's Sergio Perez and Esteban Ocon, and Williams' Felipe Massa will all have just two sets of super-softs available for the weekend and one set of softs, allowing them 10 sets of ultra-softs.

Drivers will be required to complete Q3 on the ultra-soft tyre, as well as using either one set of softs or super-softs in the race.
