Scotland's Ian Donaldson qualified and started the race, and gained six track positions in the first hour of the race. The second hour of the race saw the two of the top three cars in the overall classification - both Audi R8s - crash hard through a gravel trap and into a tyre barrier, causing extensive damage to both cars and bringing out the first caution flag of the race.

After a quick splash-and-go under caution, Donaldson continued to climb the GT ranks of the field, driving a brilliant double-stint to get the race off on the right foot for the TRG team.

Team owner Kevin Buckler, managing the team full-time for the first time in the three years the team has run at Le Mans, was pleased with Ian's stint. "Ian drove an absolutely fantastic double-stint," he said. "It was exactly what he needed to do, gain some track position and set Lars [Nielsen, co-driver] up for a great 2nd shift. The crew's work on a quick pit stop and the strategy was all brilliant - everything's perfect."
