Ezra Lusk got the evening started in the right direction in the first 250 heat race. Lusk, who entered the evening fifth in the 250 point standings, qualified for the main event after outlasting the constant charges of Ricky Carmichael and won the heat race going away. "I knew if I could get a holeshot this year that I could make it stick," said Lusk. "I'm ready to make something happen in the main and carry over some of this momentum."
Lusk lined up on the starting gate with teammate Stephane Roncada, who entered the main event by virtue of a convincing win in the semi. The two Kawasaki KX250-mounted riders bolted off the line and pushed their green machines near the front of the pack. Lusk broke free from the first turn in fourth place, while Roncada got held back and found himself in ninth as the group chased Jeremy McGrath, who had found his way to front at the end of the first lap.
Lusk would battle near the front for most of the race and showed good speed in turning consistent lap times. The lead would change a few times before Carmichael broke out front, with Lusk holding on to third and Roncada sliding up to fourth.
Down the stretch, Lusk found himself battling with his teammate and series points leader David Vuillemin for the third and final podium position. In the end, as Carmichael took the checkered flag, Lusk committed a costly bobble that allowed Vuillemin and Roncada to pass and finish third and fourth, respectively. Lusk hung on for fifth.
"I rode good in the last half of the main," Roncada said. "I've learned the last few weeks, you have to get a good start if you're going to run with the guys at the front. The last two weeks I had good starts and wound up on the podium. This week, I got a bad start and didn't have enough time to catch up."
Roncada moved up one spot in the point standings and now holds down the fourth spot with 101 points. Lusk is fifth, just two points behind his teammate with 99. Vuillemin continues to lead with 157.
In 125 action, Team Pro Circuit/Kawasaki/Chevy Trucks rider Mike Brown added another consistent evening and remained in the hunt for the 125 Eastern Region Supercross title.
Brown rode a solid 15-laps on his way to a fourth place finish in the main event behind eventual race winner Chad Reed. Brown now trails Reed by four points as the Eastern Region Series head to Atlanta for the third round of the seven-race circuit.
Team Chevy Trucks Kawasaki and the EA Sports Supercross Series will resume next weekend for the eighth round event at the Georgia Dome in Atlanta.
