MXdN faces second class field.
The beleaguered Motocross of Nations event looks set to go ahead with a very much reduced line-up of top stars, following its initial cancellation last month.
Originally slated to run in California, the motocross showpiece was scrapped when Competition Park at San Jacinto in California was deemed not to hold a suitable licence for the event. Although a replacement event - tentatively called the World Cup of Motocross - went ahead as most of the leading teams and riders have already set off for the US, the real MXdN was rescheduled for Spain later this month.

However, the entry list has since taken on a whole new appearance, with hardly any of the world's top riders taking part - many because they feel the event is taking place too late in the year or have alternative commitments to fulfil.
Team USA withdrew over the weekend, while GP world champion Mickael Pichon and AMA ace Sebastian Tortelli have dropped out of the French team. Additionally, neither Joel Smets or Open class world champ Stefan Everts are in Belgian line-up, Pit Beirer does not feature in the German team, and there is no British representation at all.
Australia - which won the World Cup of Motocross in California at the end of September - is also not taking part, along with antipodean rival New Zealand.
Despite looking more like a 'B' team competition, however, organiser Dorna is determined to press ahead with the Bellpuig event on 19-20 October, and last night released a definitive entry list which still features strong entries from South Africa, Finland and Italy.
