Dobb story to hit bookshelves in August.

Britain's number one Motocross racer and 2001 125cc World Champion, Jamie Dobb, will launch his new publication Jamie Dobb: A season in the life of a Motocross World Champion on August 14th.

A season-diary/autobiography revealing behind-the-scenes events, thoughts, and emotions along with action from all 12 of the Grand Prix events during the 2002 FIM Motocross World Championships, the book provides an insight into the dedication, pain, glory and heartache of being a professional off-road racer in one of the world's most exciting motorcycle disciplines.

The story uses each GP as a chapter and explores themes originating from the races to reveal highlights, low points and various anecdotes of Dobb's 16 year career competing at the very top of the Motocross and Supercross tree, including a four year spell spent living and competing in the huge American money spinning MX/SX scene.

The book also charts Dobb's historic Championship winning 2001 season.

The publication can be seen as an important move for the sport in a market that is dominated by car racing publications and where motocross titles are very few and far between.

Jamie's journey through the 2002 season was not an easy one, fronting the KTM's new factory 250cc two-stroke effort in the premier category of the sport.

Pre-season injury worries combined with developing a brand new motorcycle strained and frayed the 30 year old's confidence and that of his team.

The 12 race hike encompasses incidents like last lap crashes, fallouts, doping issues, impressions of new countries and circuits (from Spain to Russia), a sensational brief return to the 125 class and finally the long-awaited podium result in the penultimate GP of the year; a term where he earned a worthy fourth position in the final standings.

The book takes a look into his family life and well-known friends such as Matt Le Blanc and Marco Melandri.

It also contains Dobb's at-times controversial opinions on the changing face of Motocross, why the sport is not hitting the high-profile that it arguably deserves and what he really thinks of his many rivals over the years.

"This has been an interesting project and I think the book will do an decent job for the promotion of the sport when they are so few titles in the shops," remarked the Brit. "The 2002 season was a really strange one. 'Hard' is the first word that comes to mind, but it was also a year in which I won a GP wearing the number one plate and that had been my dream ever since I started racing.

"When the KTM started to become a bike capable of podiums at the end of the season all the injury pain, self-doubt, last lap breakages and crashes seemed worth it," he added. "The book tells quite a story. With my 2001 Championship and other racing memories I hope people will find something that interests them."

Dobb is the UK's most successful motocross rider since the 1990s. Finishing in the top five of the World Championships (125 and 250cc) every year since 1999, with one runner-up position (2000) and Britain's only 125cc title in 2001.

To-date he is also the last British winner of a Grand Prix event (125cc race in Austria during 2002). He is currently riding a KTM 450cc four-stroke in the old 250cc class that has changed to the 'Motocross GP' series for the first time in 2003.

The book, 256 pages long with a colour photo segment consisting of 16 pages and 39 shots, all by renowned photographer Ray Archer, is being published by Tempus Publishing at ?14.99 and will be available from 'all good book shops' and internet sites.
