AMA Supercross champion Chad Reed has ended speculation over his future by re-signing with the factory Yamaha Factory team.

Joining the Yamaha ranks three years ago, the 22-year-old Australian has produced a 125 Supercross championship, a world Supercross championship and a 10 win Supercross season en route to the 2004 250cc AMA Supercross crown.

"We've won 20 Supercross races in the last two years and achieved a career milestone, the 250 Supercross championship," explained Reed, who was rumoured to have options available at Honda following Ricky Carmichael's upcoming move to Suzuki. "I'm excited about continuing my career with Yamaha. Our bikes are unreal which gives me the confidence to ride at 100 per cent. Plus, I've seen my 2005 YZ250 already!"

"The contract extension was fairly simple. We wanted Chad Reed, his professionalism and talent, to further his career on Yamaha and he wanted to stay, win more races and championships with the same equipment and team," added Keith McCarty, Yamaha Racing Division Manager, without actually saying how long Reed had signed for... presumably it's a one-year extension.

"Reed loves racing and, at the core, is a motorcycle enthusiast. He'll practice and test from morning to late afternoon, drive home and ride TTR90s with his fianc? and friends until the sun sets," continued McCarty. "On the weekend, after interviews, autographs and the pit area is empty, Reed heads back to the Yamaha tractor-trailer to watch race videos. With fan-like enthusiasm, Chad repeatedly hits the rewind button, reviewing and learning about his bike, his competitors and the track."

Reed is currently tied for second in the AMA Motocross championship with Kevin Windham, the pair being 26 points behind the so far unbeaten Carmichael.
