Ricky Carmichael's amazing run in the 2004 AMA Motocross Championship continued at Washougal on Sunday when the Floridian won both motos with a frightening display of dominance.

The victory was RC's eighth of the season, and he is now two-thirds of the way towards earning a second undefeated season, having won all 12 motocross nationals in 2002.

Carmichael's last defeat came at the hands of fellow Honda rider Kevin Windham at Washougal last year, but it would be Australian Chad Reed that proved his nearest rival in the 2004 edition, while Windham claimed third.

"This was one of the races I really focused on since I got beat here last year," admitted Ricky. "It felt good to come out and turn in such a solid ride. Everything is going my way right now and I'm really enjoying it."

Meanwhile, Reed said he was happy to get the race over and is looking forward to getting back to Supercross.

"Honestly, I'll be happy when the motocross season is over," Reed said. "I'm ready to get back to Supercross. Obviously we still have some work to do to be able to beat Ricky on the outdoor circuits."

Many thought Windham, who has won twice at Washougal, could challenge Carmichael on the scenic hills and loamy soil. Even though Windham underachieved with his third-place result, he is not writing off the possibility of beaten Carmichael yet this season.

"I'm sure everyone on the gate would like to be the one to end Carmichael's streak," said Windham, who won his last AMA Motocross national a year ago at this track. "I was hoping to do a little better here, but I'm not giving up on the idea of winning one of these races coming up."

In the 125cc class, James Stewart won his seventh national of the year for Kawasaki - despite crashing during the second moto. Stewart has now won at Washougal for three consecutive seasons and tied Mark Barnett for the most 125 wins at the track.

"I just hit a small rock and washed out my front end," Stewart explained. "It didn't take me long to get going again, maybe five seconds or so, but I tweaked my knee a little bit. It should be okay by the time Millville rolls around."

Broc Hepler was second in the 125cc class followed by Paul Carpenter. It marked the first AMA Motocross podium for Carpenter.
