Carmichael out of sight at Millville.

Team Makita Suzuki's Ricky Carmichael raced to two more runaway victories at Sunday's AMA Motocross Championship round at Spring Creek Motocross Park in Millville, Minnesota to increase his series lead to 89 points with three rounds to go.

The reigning THQ World and AMA Supercross Champion took victory in the opening 30-minute race by 24-seconds and the second by 12-seconds over Kevin Windham - RC's nearest rival in both outings. Windham would briefly lead the first lap of the second moto before Carmichael got ahead going into the sandy whoop section.

With Carmichael again dominating - and Windham a safe second - the battle for third saw the most action as Team Honda riders Travis Preston and Ernesto Fonseca battled it out.

Preston turned in a superb first moto, passing Matthew Goerke late in the race to finish third behind Carmichael and Windham, while Nick Wey and Fonseca rounded out the top six.

In moto two, Fonseca and Team Yamaha's David Vuillemin battled over the third-place position, while Preston worked his way up from a 14th-place start.

Late in the race, Vuillemin passed Fonseca for third while Preston moved up into sixth. Had the moto ended that way, Preston would have finished third overall with Fonseca fourth overall - but Fonseca and Vuillemin collided on the final lap with Vuillemin going down, giving Fonseca third in the moto and third overall.

But the top step again belonged to Carmichael, who has now won 16 of the 18 motos so far and could clinch the title at next weekend's Binghampton race.

Meanwhile, exciting rookie James Stewart - who had been due to return to action at Millville - was forced to miss yet another event after a practice fall at Glen Helen on Friday left him with a 'severe hematoma in his lower right hip'.

In the 125cc class, Honda's Andrew Short took victory with a perfect 1-1 sweep, with KTM's Mike Alessi (2-3) and Josh Grant (3-4) completing the podium. Championship leader Ivan Tedesco finished fifth.
