Valentino Rossi started his German Grand Prix weekend in perfect fashion when he set the pace in morning free practice - and was still a happy man despite slipping to third in the afternoon first qualifying session.

Rossi, Gibernau face-off at Sachsenring.
Valentino Rossi and Sete Gibernau sat side by side at the Sachsenring circuit today (pictured) and agreed that the distance between them could be equally slender when the German Grand Prix reaches its climax after 30 laps on Sunday.

Day of Champions, the annual British MotoGP opener at Donington Park organised by Riders for Health to raise money for their life-saving programmes in Africa, will once again feature the exciting HotBuggy challenge with another all-star line-up.

Sete: Sachsenring 2003 one of my best.
In his own words, the 2003 German Grand Prix was one of Sete Gibernau's best races to date, the Spaniard beating fellow Honda rider Valentino Rossi by 0.06secs after outsmarting The Doctor in the final corner - and a repeat would be even more important this Sunday.

Tornado hits Northallerton.
Former World Superbike Champion Colin Edwards heads a prestigious list of two-wheel stars making their way to the quaint British town of Northallerton next Tuesday evening (July 20th) for an annual chat show organised by the North Yorkshire Road Racing Supporters Club.

KTM engine at Team Roberts.
Whilst the MotoGP race was underway at Assen and all eyes were trackwards, an engine sized box was being carried to the back of the Team Roberts pit garage.

Qatar officially opened.
Qatar's brand-new Losail MotoGP circuit was inaugurated today with a ceremony that included an impressive fireworks display and a riding demo by former GP winner Randy Mamola aboard the Ducati Desmosedici two-seater.

Assen to be shortened.
Assen has announced that it plans to shorten the famous Dutch TT circuit from 6.027km to 4.750km by radically changing the North Loop section in time for the 2006 MotoGP event.

Chaz offers Donington paddock passes.
Chaz Davies is offering MotoGP fans the chance to win paddock passes for the British Grand Prix, to be held at Donington Park on July 23-25.

With fellow championship leader Sete Gibernau falling early in Sunday's Rio Grand Prix, Valentino Rossi was presented with the perfect chance to put points between himself and the Spaniard... but then made a rare mistake of his own - crashing out of a GP for the first time since 2001.

Kenny: The others have traction control.
Kenny Roberts may not have been able to repeat his shock qualifying pace in Sunday's Rio Grand Prix, but the American at least led the first lap on his way to a best 2004 finish of seventh.

Former world champion Kenny Roberts caused one of the biggest shocks of the season by grabbing pole position in the final qualifying session for the Cinzano Rio Grand Prix in Brazil this afternoon [Saturday].

After an incredible start to the 2004 season, and his Yamaha career, Valentino Rossi has nominated his debut M1 win as the most satisfying of his four victories so far.

Biaggi confident after 'massive Honda support'.
Max Biaggi has often been criticised for blaming poor performance on machinery disadvantages or set-up issues, but the Roman was quick to credit Honda for his Assen turnaround.

Ducati: Twin-pulse has same power.
The Ducati Marlboro Team's 'big bang' twin-pulse engine will make its second grand prix appearance this weekend at Rio, just one week after Loris Capirossi and Troy Bayliss raced the new powerplant for the first time in last Saturday's Dutch TT.

Saturday's Dutch TT tested the amiable relationship between championship contenders Sete Gibernau and Valentino Rossi to the very limit.

900cc MotoGP from 2007, new weight limits.
In a meeting held yesterday (Friday), the Grand Prix Commission - composed of Carmelo Ezpeleta (Dorna), Claude Danis (FIM), Sito Pons (IRTA) and Takanao Tsubouchi (MSMA) - unanimously agreed to introduce the following modifications to the Road Racing World Championship Grand Prix Regulations:

Rossi breaks Gibernau in Dutch duel.
Valentino Rossi has taken his third 2004 victory in a row after winning a nail biting lights to flag duel with Sete Gibernau, which was only decided after contact between them a few corners from the finish.

Lorenzo earns thrilling 125cc Assen win.
Jorge Lorenzo emerged victorious from a heart-stopping 125cc Dutch TT, which saw four riders exchanging paintwork and the lead several times on the last lap during an intense battle for victory.

Gibernau: The clutch broke.
Sete Gibernau saw his hopes of Assen pole position end when the clutch on his Telefonica Honda began slipping on his all important final qualifying lap of the Dutch circuit this afternoon.

Nakano takes Kawasaki to all-time high.
