Helmet signed by MotoGP stars sets record

A 'Stop-Cancer' helmet signed by 12 past and present MotoGP stars has been auctioned for a record-breaking ?200,000, (EUR255,000).

It makes the helmet - signed by Giacomo Agostini, Angel Nieto, Valentino Rossi, Jorge Lorenzo, Marc M?rquez, Dani Pedrosa, Wayne Rainey, Loris Capirossi, ?lex Crivill?, Wayne Gardner, Scott Russell and Randy Mamola - the most expensive in the world, with all proceeds being donated to charity.

The helmet was the idea of Spanish university student Alberto Hernandez and Oscar Haro, a member of the LCR Honda Team. The aim was to raise funds for AECC, (Spanish Association against Cancer) (www.aecc.es) and Riders For Health (www.riders.org), the official charity of MotoGP.

Anthony Constantinou, CEO of CWM FX and title Sponsor of LCR Honda from 2015, was at Valencia for the last race of the MotoGP season. Having heard about the auction, he decided to take part online... and offered a staggering ?200,000!

"With so many families affected by cancer, it's important that we all join together to support the charities which provide vital services for patients and their loved ones," Constantinou said. "The team has done an excellent job in raising awareness and funds. I'm pleased I could play a part in this deserving cause and I hope it inspires others to get involved in the fight against cancer."

In total, the riders that signed the helmet have won 58 world titles! The helmet also got the approval and autograph of Dorna CEO Carmelo Ezpeleta.

No other helmet has raised such a high price at auction, the figure far exceeding the previous records established by helmets from two other great champions; Ayrton Senna, which raised ?74,750 (EUR94,200) in 2012, and Sebastian Vettel, sold for ?72,100 (EUR90,900) in 2013.
