Kmart Racing has rolled the first of its new VY Commodores out of its Melbourne workshop in time for this weekend's eighth round of the V8 Supercar Series, being held at Oran Park Raceway in Sydney.

Kmart Racing's Greg Murphy was impressed with his first look at the completed car that he will drive for the first time during Friday's first practice session.

"If this Kmart Racing VY Commodore goes half as good as it looks, then it's going to be an absolute weapon," a smiling Murphy said. "While we're travelling okay in the points (Murphy is third and team-mate Rick Kelly is ninth), we have struggled a little with our older VX Commodores and the new VY allows us to plan better for the future - especially with Sandown and Bathurst coming up."

But while impressed with the look of the new car and the workmanship that has gone into its construction, Murphy warned fans should not expect a first up win.

"Our plan was to have tested at Winton on Monday before heading to Sydney, but Kmart Racing is still not allowed to test by TEGA," he said. "This car is very much an unknown quantity to us and without having the opportunity to test like the other teams have, we're really not on a level playing field.

"But one great thing about this team is despite the hurdles continually put in our way, we won't give up. The Fords have had it all their own way too much this season already."
