Yamaha loses satellite representation
Yamaha could go without any satellite representation in next year's World Superbike Championship after the GMT 94 team confirmed it will focus its efforts on endurance racing in 2010.
The team, backed by Yamaha France, has competed in the world championship for two seasons, but having slimmed down to a single bike for David Checa in 2009, it has confirmed it will not re-enter next year.
Nonetheless, it will remain in operation in endurance competition, where it has achieved success in recent years, with the rider combination of Checa, former British Superbike champion Gregorio Lavilla and Kenny Noyes, the latter also participating in the French Superbike Championship.
With GMT pulling out and Stiggy Racing, which was tipped to switch to Yamaha machinery in 2010, forced to withdraw, Yamaha are currently without a secondary team in World Superbikes, despite being title-winners this season. By contrast, Ducati, Honda and BMW all have confirmed privateer entries in 2010.
