Former National Superstock 1000 champion Richard Cooper has been named as the first rider for TAG Racing's new MCE Insurance British Superbike Championship team.

Cooper has already made one off appearances in BSB, including a stunning debut front row qualifying start in his debut race at Mallory Park in 2009.

Cooper celebrated a title victory in the National Superstock 1000 class in 2011 and has also experienced World Championship level with races in the World Endurance Championship.

Cooper ended his 2013 season on a high at Brands Hatch with a maiden race win in the Motorpoint British Supersport Championship to finish his second season in seventh place in the overall standings.

"The time feels right for me to move into Superbike and I am really excited about 2014," said Cooper. "I have raced across the different classes and this is the perfect opportunity now for me to step up with the TAG Racing team as we have a strong foundation from working together in the Supersport class.

"The rules in the Superbike Championship lend themselves to giving teams like us the opportunity to try and take on some of the more established teams and we are already working on the Kawasaki so that it suits my style and that will bring confidence.

"The buzz at the moment is about BSB and it feels great to know that we are going to be a part of that next year. I have my targets for next year and we are looking for a debut season that we can then build on and move forward in the future."

TAG Racing will announce its second BSB rider in due course.
