British Superbike Championship leader John Reynolds is undergoing specialist treatment on his broken left collarbone in a bid to be fit for the seventh round of the series at Brands Hatch on 20 June.

Rizla Suzuki rider JR broke his collarbone in a crash during the second race at Thruxton on Sunday and wasted no time seeking the best specialist advice. He spent all day Monday and most of Tuesday in Ipswich at The Physiotherapy Clinic run by Brian Simpson, the renowned expert that got JR back racing just two weeks after breaking his collarbone at the opening round of the championship last year.

The 38-year old Nottingham racer is undergoing laser and pulse magnetic field treatment to speed up the bone cell activity and rate of repair. He is also using a hyperbaric chamber, which increases the oxygen to the fracture and promotes healing.

"My collarbone has broken at the same place as last year when I crashed at Silverstone and I am in some pain," JR admitted.

"I will be resting and receiving treatment right up to, and including, Brands Hatch. I will not know if I can race at Brands until I get there, but I am doing everything I can to give myself the best chance. Thanks to everyone for their support. The numbers of phone calls and e-mail messages to the team are huge and that gives me great heart and motivation."

Team manager Paul Denning said that he was willing to wait for Reynolds to decide whether he would be fit enough to ride.

"Riders, due to the nature of their sport, are optimistic and always keen to get back on track as soon as possible," he explained, "JR is no different, and he is doing everything he can, with the full backing of Rizla Suzuki, to be fit to race at Brands Hatch - he is still the championship leader and wants to win the title.

"We have to remember that he has an injury that normally takes around six weeks or more to heal, and can have you signed off work for a long time. We will take a view immediately prior to Brands Hatch on his state of fitness and ability to ride and do what is best for him and for his championship aspirations."
