Herbert Foiled By Pliers.

Johnny Herbert's unhappy season continued at Monza - when he was forced out of the Italian Grand Prix by an errant pair of pliers!


The Sauber driver began experiencing problems with his brakes in the early stages of the race, and was amazed to find the pliers sliding around behind the pedals. Despite vain attempts to kick them out of the footwell, Herbert was eventually forced into a spin at the fast Lesmo curves as the pliers again fouled the brake pedal.

(I couldn't be exactly sure what was going on,) said Johnny afterwards, (All I knew was that the car felt inconsistent and difficult to drive. As I went into the Lesmo, the pedal felt strange and I couldn't do anything about it and spun off. I am not very happy.)


(This was entirely the fault of the team,) admitted principal Peter Sauber, (All we can say to Johnny is sorry.)
