Codemasters has released the first footage from the new Hanoi circuit in Vietnam from its upcoming F1 2020 video game.

The Hanoi Street Circuit was due to host the inaugural Vietnam Grand Prix in April but the event was postponed because of the COVID-19 pandemic. The race is expected to be shoehorned into the revised 2020 calendar - possibly in November.

On Friday, Codemasters unveiled the first in-game footage of the 5.613km track with a ride onboard with Charles Leclerc’s Ferrari.

Speaking about the footage, Codemasters’ game director Lee Mather said: “We’re always excited to create new experiences for our players.

“Hanoi delivers both thrills and challenges, set against the backdrop of the stunning city skyline.

“It is an adrenaline rush with high speeds, long straights and heavy braking zones, but it will punish anyone who doesn’t respect the walled sections.”

Carsten Tilke, managing director and partner at the Tilke company that designed the circuit, added: “Hanoi Circuit offers a unique city circuit layout with several overtaking possibilities and high-speed corner combinations.

"Codemasters has done a great job recreating Hanoi Circuit, and the track will provide a new challenge for all players.”

F1 2020 will be released on July 10, five days after the 2020 season is due to get underway with a behind closed doors race in Austria.

The latest edition of Codemasters’ official F1 title will feature the original 2020 schedule which was decimated by the outbreak of coronavirus.

Among many new features, the game will also include the option to run customised seasons of either 10 or 16 races.

It will be available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Google Stadia.
