Armstrong fastest on final day of Bahrain Formula 2 test

Marcus Armstrong set the fastest time of the day as Formula 2 testing came to an end in Bahrain.

Like on day two, teams focused on qualifying simulations in the morning session before turning their attention to the race simulations in the afternoon.

The DAMS driver took to the top of the timesheets just over 30 minutes into the morning session, setting a 1m42.173s.

Armstrong’s lap time still remained 0.4s shy of Christian Lundgaard’s impressive benchmark from yesterday.

The difference in times from the morning to the afternoon was vast as Ralph Boschung topped the afternoon session with a 1m44.905s, 2.7s off the pace set by Armstrong in the morning.

Liam Lawson was just 0.045s shy of Armstrong in the lead Hitech GP car, just ahead of teammate Juri Vips.

Lawson completed only 13 laps in the morning and a further 23 in the afternoon - the fewest of any driver on day three.

Guanyu Zhou was the lead Virtuosi Racing and within a tenth of Armstrong in fourth, while Lirim Zendeli completed the top five for MP Motorsport.

Robert Shwartzman completed 57 laps across the two sessions on his way to the sixth fastest time of the day in the Prema.

Boschung was fastest in the afternoon for Campos but was only seventh in the qualifying simulations.

Richard Verschoor, Oscar Piastri and Felipe Drugovich completed the top ten.

The 2021 F2 season starts at the Bahrain International Circuit on March 26-28.
