The race started in dramatic fashion with Juri Vips and Ayumu Iwasa making sluggish starts from the front row of the grid, allowing Roy Nissany to take the lead into Turn 1.

The experienced Israeli maintained the lead on the opening lap as the Safety Car was deployed due to Dennis Hauger and Jack Doohan's collision at the start.

Hauger was sent into the pit wall on the start-finish straight as things got messy off the line due to Vips and Iwasa's poor starts.

The Safety Car soon made a second appearance when Vips' unforced error left him the barriers.

The Safety Car came at the perfect time as the soft runners could complete their mandatory pit stop, putting them in the prime position to win.

This put Nissany in the net lead of the race but he soon found the barriers, losing control of his car at the final corner.

This handed Pourchaire the lead of the race, which he controlled from the front to take his second feature race victory of the year.

Further behind, a mistake from Williams F1 junior Logan Sargeant left the door open for Ralph Boschung to move up to second, who was quickly overtaken by Enzo Fittipaldi in the closing laps.

Fittipaldi secured second ahead of Boschung as the race ended behind the Safety Car after Liam Lawson's shunt.

Clement Novalak finished fourth ahead of Vesti, while Frederik Vesti scored his first points of the year in sixth.

Sargeant recovered to seventh after his mistake ahead of David Beckmann and Jehan Daruvala.

Felipe Drugovich rounded out the points at Imola.
