Oz F3 in running for CAMS Gold Star.

Team BRM, the 2004 Australian Formula 3 championship winning team, has expressed delight at the news that the Australian Formula 3 championship will race for the prestigious CAMS Gold Star award in the 2005 racing season.

The announcement, made by Australian Motor Racing Commission Chairman Mr. Graeme Emerton, awarded Formula 3 Australia the rights to promote the Gold Star award and the Australian Drivers Championship for the next two years, further enhancing Formula 3's status as the leading open wheel category in Australia.

The CAMS Gold Star is the highest award achievable by drivers in Australian motorsport, and has been won by the likes of Lex Davison, Bib Stilwell, Mark Skaife, Simon Wills and Will Power in the past.

Team BRM owner Bronte Rundle said that the news was fantastic for Formula 3 racing in Australia and all the teams competing in the competitive series, won this year by team BRM's Karl Reindler.

"I welcome the news from CAMS that we will be able to race for the Australian Drivers Championship and the Gold Star in 2005," commented Rundle. "I also welcome the comments made by the chairman, Mr. Emerton, as to how they view Formula 3 racing in this country, as well as endorsing it as the new holder of the Australian Drivers Championship. It proves that this category is the absolute best place for young drivers to be if they want a career in Formula 1 racing," he said.

Rundle also said that he believes young drivers should look first to Formula 3 racing when trying to establish an international motorsport career.

"This category has already helped the careers of James Manderson, Will Power and Barton Mawer, and now we are going to be able to follow Karl Reindler, this year's champion, aspiring to reach the pinnacle of motorsports," said Rundle.

"But we also recognise that some drivers may use the ADC as an avenue to get into V8Supercar racing, and we are confident that Formula 3 and team BRM will be able to continue to uphold that tradition as well.

"We are in the process of sorting out who will be driving for us in 2005," said Rundle. "We have seats available in our championship winning operation, that with the added bonus of the Gold Star, could prove to be a fantastic opportunity for a driver looking to progress forward in the world of motorsport, be it domestically or internationally."
In conclusion, Rundle said that he was certain Formula 3 would be a worthy recipient of the honour placed on it by CAMS.
