AMA Supercross champion Ricky Carmichael will have a new mechanic for the first time in five years this Saturday in San Diego.

RC has worked with Chad Watts since 1997 when he rode for the Kawasaki Pro Circuit Team, and the duo went on to claim eight major titles.

Watts, one of the most entertaining team members whenever interviewed, has also worked with double World Motocross champion Mickael Pichon.

However, Racer X reports that Watts is having serious problems with numbness in his arm and hand, requiring indefinite leave.

Team Honda, managed by former racer Erik Kehoe, have now appointed Mike Gosselaar to replace Watts for the rest of the 2003 season.

Gosselaar has been with Team Honda for several years working with currant Kawasaki rider Ezra Lusk. He is also the father of 125cc Amsoil/Chaparral Honda rider Christopher Gosselaar.

Carmichael and Gossalaar will need to 'gel' quickly if the Floridian is to maintain his points lead in the face of growing opposition from Yamaha's Chad Reed.
