The 2006 FIM Motocross and SuperMoto world champions received their awards during a glittering ceremony at the Salle des Etoiles in Monaco on Sunday.

Retiring ten-times world champion Stefan Everts, the most successful rider in the history of world championship motocross, was unsurprisingly the most awarded rider of the night.

The great Belgian received a red number plate with his famous #72, which has been retired from racing, plus; a trophy for winning a record-breaking 101 grands prix; a trophy for career achievement; a trophy for his record-breaking 10 world championship wins; a unique personalised mobile phone, given to Stefan by Youthstream president Giuseppe Luongo; an Award as Honorary member of the Moto Club of Monaco and last but not least, the award for winning the 2006 FIM MX1 Motocross World Championship.

The final event of 2006 ended with all of the new world champions on stage together, before the world-famous musical 'Fame' performed a ballet to entertain the watching guests.

"It was a great event; it was the best way to end the season and celebrate the champions, the organisers and the federations," declared Luongo. "The place is fantastic and unique in the world: the greatest champions and artists in the world celebrate here. Our sport grew a lot, but the level is going to become higher and higher. We want to continue like this!"
