Randy de Puniet proved his pre-season potential further by topping the 250cc IRTA test at Estoril on his new Safilo Oxydo LCR Aprilia.

The Frenchman set the pace with a 1min 41.863secs effort, just over a tenth short of the pole record set by Sebastian Porto at last year's Portuguese Grand Prix.

De Puniet was almost 0.4secs faster than his nearest rival, former Gilera rider Manuel Poggiali, who himself produced a major improvement over yesterday to finish ahead Toni Elias, a pre-season favourite - but today a full second behind de Puniet.

Fourth fastest was Roberto Rolfo, who escaped uninjured from late day crash to finish 0.2secs ahead of new Puig Honda rider Porto.
