Today (Thursday evening), there has been some promising news regarding Daijiro Kato's condition: The Japanese is reported to have passed through the most dangerous period, and is now even surprising those treating him.

"After 3 days, Daijiro Kato has lived past the most dangerous time for this type of injuries and is now surprising the doctors with some improvements," Dr. Claudio Costa of the Clinica Mobile declared on clinicamobile.com.

"His respiration is still machine-assisted but his heartbeat, which had stopped last Sunday, is now steady. His blood pressure was extremely unstable after the accident but has now stabilised. Daijiro's brain is reacting and sending life signals to the monitors."

Immediately following Kato's horrendous accident, which has left him with countless injuries - most seriously to his head, neck and chest - Dr. Costa gave him just a 15% chance of living.

This latest news provides yet more hope that, although his terrible injuries won't allow him to race again, Kato will be able to survive.
