A tragic accident has cost the life of a D'Antin Yamaha team member on the journey back from Sunday's Catalan Grand Prix.

Having arrived at the team's central base, an industrial park in a town near Madrid, in the early hours of Tuesday morning, the hospitality unit personnel decided to sleep in the bus - as they would do during a GP weekend.

For currently unknown reasons, both of them subsequently lost consciousness and were only discovered when the team, alarmed by their disappearance, began a search the next morning and found them inside the bus.

Sadly, the bus driver, 36-year old Jos? Luis Trigo (pictured), was pronounced dead at the scene while 24-year old Mart?n Fern?ndez Avil?s was rushed to Cl?nica de La Paz hospital, in Madrid, in a state of semi-consciousness.

Aviles is now in the Intensive Care Unit where the team report his condition has begun 'notably improving'.

It seems likely that some form of gas leak would be among the list of possibilities for causing the tragic accident.

The D'Antin team has decided to immediately cancel all non-sporting activities in their hospitality unit until the cause is determined.
